Removing UPC Codes

When you remove a UPC code from an item, the code status is set to Retired. The item status is set to Active or Inactive based on the custom preferences you have selected.

For more information about setting custom preferences, see Setting Custom Auto Assign UPC Preferences.

Important:

The following steps are applicable only for UPC codes that are assigned automatically.

To remove a UPC code:

  1. Open the item record.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. In the UPC Code Assignment field, select Remove UPC Code.

  4. Click Save.

  5. A dialog box appears with the warning: Are you sure you want to remove the UPC code from the item? This action will retire the UPC code and make the item inactive until a new UPC code is assigned. Click OK to proceed or Cancel to abort the action.

  6. Click OK.

Note:

Best practices for managing UPC Codes:

  • Using a retired code: To use a retired code, delete the code, and then import it again. However, best practice is to not reuse retired UPC codes.

  • Leaving a UPC Assignment Record on Inactive Items: If you mark an item as inactive but leave its UPC Assignment Record unchanged, the record remains for auditing and tracking. This does not affect system operations or other items, and the UPC code is not retired if the item is not deleted. If the item is deleted, the UPC code will retire.

  • Retiring a UPC Code Assigned to Active Items: Removing a UPC code from an item marks the code as retired in NetSuite. If the UPC code is still assigned to other active items, retiring it may impact those items as well. Avoid retiring a UPC code if it is currently used by other active items to prevent unintentional disruptions.

  • Removal through CSV Import: If you try to remove the UPC code with a CSV import and are unable to do so because of confirmation prompts, use the item record UI or contact your administrator for support.
